A Clergy Training Program in a Menial Health Center
Abstract
A mental health center initiated a six-month pilot program to teach counseling skills and techniques to clergymen. Two groups of eight students each met once a week. The clergymen developed skills in working with the terminally ill and the aged and in counseling individuals with marital problems. A significant outcome of the program was the clergyman's awareness of mental health services in the community and his increased ability to recognize parishioners who needed those services.
