Web Sites Worth Watching
Abstract
In collaboration with the staff of the APA library, Psychiatric Services offers a monthly listing of mental-health-related Web sites and other sites of interest. The list will change monthly as new sites are identified, existing sites add new features, and different categories of sites are included. The Center for the Study and Prevention of Violence was founded at the University of Colorado in 1992. The center collects research literature and resources on the causes and prevention of violence, offers technical assistance for the evaluation and development of violence prevention programs, and conducts research through data analysis and other projects on the causes of violence and the effectiveness of prevention and intervention programs.
Visitors to the center's Web site can obtain fact sheets on such issues as juvenile sexual aggression, gangs and youth violence, and safe school planning as well as position summaries on gun control prevention efforts and positive peer culture programs. They can also conduct keyword searches of the center's Violence Program database, download blueprints of model violence prevention programs, and link to other Web sites on violence. The site currently features a statement on the center's response to the shootings at Columbine High School last spring.
