Reflections of a Radio Psychiatrist

Published Online:https://doi.org/10.1176/ps.37.9.934

The author, host of a nationally broadcast radio call-in show on mental health, describes how he meets the challenge of reconciling the requirements of professional ethics with the need to make the show "good radio." He discusses the subject matter of the calls and the types of information callers need, the ages and occupations of the callers and listeners, and some of the more unusual calls he has received. Finally, he discusses his role as a marketer of psychiatry and as an educator.
