Abstract
The differential diagnosis by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, third edition, of disorders that often arise in childhood is illustrated by this month's case. The guest expert is Dr. Theodore Shapiro, professor of psychiatry and professor of psychiatty in pediatrics at Cornell University Medical College and director of child and adokscent psycbiatry at the Payne Whitney Psychiatric Clinic. Dr. Shapiro is a consultant on psychiatric diagnosis to the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration and the World Health Organization.
