Some Observations About Psychiatric Services in the U.S.S.R

The author visited psychiatric dispensaries, hospitals, and research institutes during a trip to the U.S.S.R. in September 1972. He describes the various facilities and other aspects of the Soviet system of psychiatric care, which emphasizes outpatient and day treatment as opposed to hospitalization. Workshops are widely used for more severely disabled patients.
