Abstract
When a small, semirural mental health center became affiliated with a general hospital, it hired a full-time psychiatrist instead of obtaining more part-time psychiatric services. The psychiatrist believes that the resulting system, in which he handles referrals for inpatient care as consultations, sees outpatients, and does not engage in private practice, makes for satisfactory and effective operation.
