A State Association for Teens Interested in Mental Health and Mental Retardation Kentucky Mental Health Manpower Commission Louisville
Abstract
In 1965 the Kentucky Mental Health Manpower Commission initiated a five-year project to interest high school students in careers related to mental health and mental retardation. Mental health clubs were organized in several high schools as an outgrowth of the project, and in 1968 they formed the statewide Kentucky Mental Health-Mental Retardation Teens Who Care Association, with the commission as sponsor. Currently there are 50 clubs with about 2500 members. Their activities focus on improving public understanding of mental health, providing volunteer service, and exploring career opportunities.
