A Benefical Work Assignment for Inpatient Alcoholics

Work assignments on geriatric and medical wards are an important part of the comprehensive rehabilitation program for alcoholic patients at the Lexington VA Hospital. The assignments enable them to increase their self-esteem and become more self-reliant. The work also gives them an opportunity to alone for past transgressions, and permits them to see the devastating effects of alcohol abuse in other patients.
