Mildly retarded adolescents who are having difficulty getting along in the community are admitted to a two-month inpatient program at the UCLA Neuropsy-chiatric Institute. The staff attempt to correct the adolescent's deviant behaviours through a milieu program based on a merit system and an interactional approach, through structured activities, and through psychotherapy or play therapy; the therapy is conducted by trainees from various disciplines, who also work with the parents.
