This issue marks the end of my first year serving as editor of Psychiatric Services. It has been a year of learning and joy for me. For the first half of the year I shared the honor with our Editor Emeritus, John A. Talbott, M.D. The division of labor left to me the responsibility for reviewing all the submissions that arrived in 2004 and for assigning reviewers. This process is at the core of publishing Psychiatric Services, or any scholarly journal. The editor serves as a communicating bridge between authors and reviewers—in an effort to improve the quality of the work we publish in the journal. We are entirely dependent on the good will of reviewers who donate their time and expertise. For this dedication we are grateful—I as editor and all of us as readers of Psychiatric Services.
