Being editor of the journal was not an easy job. Because of its interdisciplinary focus and the fact that it was not a benefit of APA membership—and therefore not received by all APA members—the journal was subjected to repeated challenges over the years about its role and purpose vis-à-vis APA goals. Combining the skills of a born military leader and a master politician, John would rally the troops and disarm the critics. Thanks to John's leadership, and his army of reviewers, contributors, past and present editorial board members, editorial consultants, and aides-de-camp, the journal now occupies a respected place among APA publications.
