Using Group Therapy to Persuade Dual-Diagnosis Patients to Seek Substance Abuse Treatment
Abstract
Appropriate postdischarge treatment for dual-diagnosis patients may lead to markedly lower rates of hospital utilization among these patients (6,10). The potential benefits of a persuasion group, which appears to enhance the use of and acceptance of discharge plans that include substance abuse treatment, are therefore substantial. The results reported here should encourage further examination of the efficacy of similar methods of persuasion.
