Abstract

Clinicians should be alerted to the adverse effects of acute and chronic use of cocaine and watch for potential withdrawal symptoms, possibly including chest pain. At this point, further studies are needed to address the efficacy and safety of agents such as propranolol and calcium channel blockers in the treatment of acute cocaine intoxication and withdrawal. We caution physicians to consider the risks and benefits of the use and timing of antidepressants in the treatment of cocaine abuse, especially in patients with chest pain.
