As the over-65 age group increases, so do the numbers of elderly people seen by health care specialists in institutional settings and private practice. Beginning with this issue, H& CP offers a bimonthly column of practical information directed to the growing number of mental health professionals who treat the problems ofthe elderly and advise on their management. The column's editor is Gene D. Cohen, M. D., Ph. D., director of the program on aging of the National Institute of Mental Health and chairman of the committee on aging of the Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry. Dr. Cohen was guest editor of H& CP's well received special issue on mental health and aging published in February 1982. Comments about the column can be addressed to Dr. Cohen at Room 11C-03, NIMH, 5600 Fishers Lane, Rockvile, Maryland 20857.
