Abstract

One characteristic of the flat, open system of management is that the chief executive officer is easily accessible to staff at all levels. As a result some staff members may by pass their immediate supervisor and take work-related problems directly to the top. The author reports on a study at the Madden Zone Cenier in Illinois that suggests such action is a manifestation of organizational anxiety.
