Abstract

A cooperative project involving staff of a state hospital and of the mental health clinic in an adjacent county was started on a pilot basis in 1970. Dual appointments and staff sharing between the two facilities have resulted in more comprehensive services for county residents. The program has demonstrated that such joint efforts can prevent or shorten hospitalization, and increase community placements for chronic hospital patients.
