Abstract

Although the third edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-III) was published more than two years ago, many professionals have questions about its rationale and use. This column, the first in a series to appear in alternate issues, will serve as a forum in which readers can obtain answers to those questions. This month's queries are taken from DSM-III workshops that the authors have given and will focus on the use of the multiaxial system. Readers are urged to send Dr. Williams their own questions about any aspect of DSM-III for possible publication in future columns.
